What is Holiday at Home?
What it says on the tin! Basically, you enjoy all the experiences of a holiday with the knowledge that you’re able to sleep in the comfort of your own bed!
Lambourn’s Holiday at Home event will run 10.15am – 4pm Tuesday 13 – Wednesday 14 August 2019 at the Walwyn Hall, Lambourn. It is being organised by the four churches (Anglican, RC, Methodist and Quaker) for older people who are unable to go away on holiday, to help alleviate loneliness and social isolation.
The Lambourn Holiday at Home vision is:
To reach out to older people in the Lambourn Valley who are unable to go away on holiday, and to give them the opportunity to be refreshed, to enjoy new experiences, to make new friends, and to share God’s love.
The event is being funded by the Lambourn churches, sponsorship and donations – monetary and in-kind.
What does Holiday at Home offer?
Holiday at Home offers time for people to have new experiences, be refreshed, to make friends, to eat together and have FUN, just like you would if you were away on holiday.
We will be aboard the cruise liner “Lambourn Valley”. ‘Passengers’ will be offered a non-alcoholic cocktail or coffee on embarkation, lunch, and afternoon tea.
You will be able to join in several activities which will include crafts based on our cruise theme, appointments in the spa (hand massage, head massage etc), an antiques roadshow (hoping for a guest speaker), Sing-a-long (sea shanties, Rule Britannia etc), deck games and a Thought for the Day.
How to Apply
Referrals can be made by professionals or self-referral and transport will be available to those who need it.
Holiday at Home will be staffed by volunteers, appropriately DBS checked, some with food hygiene certificates, first aiders and so on.
The cost of the cruise is £10 per passenger, payable on application. The passenger’s carer (if needed) will be free of charge.
