Snowdrops at Welford Park 2019

Welford Park is at the heart of the Lambourn Valley between Newbury and Lambourn and is once again open to the public to enjoy their fantastic displays of snowdrops and aconites carpeting the woodland. In the formal gardens on the other side of the house the Galanthus cultivars can be discovered amongst hellebores and winter flowering shrubs.

The February sun, low in the sky, just catches the whiteness of frost and bloom creating a magical scene across the magnificent seven acre drift of snowdrops that attracts so many visitors each year.

A natural woodland walk with bridges across the River Lambourn together with the Old Laundry Tearooms serving homemade lunches and teas, and a Snowdrop Gift shop, make a wonderful day’s outing.

2018 Snowdrop News from Welford Head Gardener

The Snowdrops have survived all that wonderful snow and are standing proud in the beech woods.  I am particularly proud of our paths that have drained extremely well.  The acconites are looking better than ever and that bright yellow glow is a heavenly sight on a gloomy February morning.    This evening I was walking around all the paths under the most amazing bright orange sunset.

This photo was taken on 7 February and the snowdrops are just going to get better and better so do plan your visit. If you come sooner it will be less crowded, or later when the snowdrops are at their best we will be quite busy !!
