Great Shefford Under Fives together with Welford Park Cricket Club have run the Local Lottery for the past 20 years. We are looking forward to operating this for a 21st year but would like to take this opportunity to remind everyone what this fund-raising has enabled each group to achieve over this period.
Subscribers pay an annual subscription of £15 to enter a monthly draw to win one of four prizes:
1st prize £50
2nd prize £25
3rd prize £15
4th prize £10
Plus a CHRISTMAS BONUS draw of £150, £100 and £50.
The draw is made prior to cricket fixtures at Welford Park or at the Village Hall at the end of a Pre-School or Toddler session on the last Friday of the month. Over the past 20 years we have given out over £23,000 in prize money and raised a similar figure, which has been shared between the Under Fives and Cricket Club as they provide educational and sporting opportunities for our local children.
Great Shefford Under Fives
Great Shefford is extremely fortunate to have a wonderful “Under Fives” group, which provides fun and education for many young children and a support network for local families. Thanks to a great deal of support from the local community this valuable facility has continued to flourish when in many areas voluntary run pre-schools have closed. At present the “Under Fives” group runs a Parent and Toddler group each Monday morning and a Pre-School for children aged 3 to 5 years each Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. The Pre-School is presently busier than at any time in its history. All the sessions take place in the Village Hall.
The parents at the group work hard to fund raise for all the equipment and resources which are needed. This “Local Lottery” is the main fund raising event of the year and everyone involved with the “Under Fives” is grateful for your support to enable the group to continue.
Welford Park Cricket Club
Welford Park Cricket Club has made enormous improvements to the facilities over the past twenty years including a super new pavilion, practice nets and scorer’s box all as a result of tremendous fund raising.
These funds have also enabled the club to run a junior training program for children of 7 years old and above and now some of these lads have made their way through to the clubs Saturday 1st & 2nd Xls.
The Club occupies an idyllic location just off the road running between Welford and Wickham villages and welcomes all visitors to matches with a cuppa and a cake! If you are interested in playing, umpiring or even scoring you would be made most welcome as running 3 sides over a weekend for a small village club can at times be quite challenging.
We hope that all current ticket holders, and some new, will continue to support these local organisations, they really do deserve it!
