Here at Hampstead Norreys Community Shop, we bake a lovely range of fresh pastries and deli items every day.
This flan is one of our most popular items.
Ingredients (for two 10 inch flan cases)
260 gm Stork margarine
520 gm plain flour
Splash cold water
In a blender mix flour and margarine. Pulse in 2 eggs and slowly add splash water until all combined. Wrap in cling film, refrigerate for a couple of hours.
This is enough pastry to line 2 x 10 inch flan cases. Roll the dough out and line the cases with it, rest in fridge for at least 30 mins. Bake blind for about 25 mins at 175C.
Ingredients (for 1 flan)
1 head of cauliflower trimmed and broken into pieces
Good glug of olive oil, sea salt, freshly ground black pepper.
Roast in oven for about 30-40 mins 175C
1 large white onion, chopped, fried
4 rashers of smoked bacon cut into lardons, fried
10 eggs well beaten and seasoned
Good handful mature cheddar
Line the bottom of the cooked flan with the fried onion, cauliflower, bacon, cheese and add egg until filled
Bake at 175C for approx. 35 mins (turn tray half way evenly cook)
Good to serve hot or at room temperature.
