Hungerford Youth & Community Centre

Hello! Welcome to Hungerford Youth and Community Centre’s very first quarterly newsletter. We want to tell everyone what’s been happening here and what’s to come…

A special thanks to our website designer Laura Wrzesinski, who really understood the fun and friendly brief we gave her and was conscientious and very patient throughout the project. We are delighted with the result. Please visit the website by clicking here to keep up to date with everything that is going on there.

Two groups from Hungerford Rock Club put on a stunning performance at Hogan Academy Student Showcase on Sunday 12th March, where over 30 students performed pieces of music which they have been working on in their lessons. It was an amazing event, where musicians of all ages got to flex their musical muscles and have a taste of the limelight. There were players of a large variety of instruments, from guitars and drums, to trumpet and violin.

The event was capped off with awesome performances from two bands, The Lightning Strikes and Pope, both of which come to our Rock Club held at the Hungerford Youth and Community Centre. The Lightning Strikes played “Mr Brightside” (The Killers) and “Hall of Fame” (The Script), and Pope played “Fluorescent Adolescent” (Arctic Monkeys) and “Twice” (Catfish & The Bottlemen). The did a brilliant job and really made the event finish with a bang. Well done guys!!

Centre Makeover Update

We have been busy and redecorated the upstairs Committee Room, complete with new carpet. Many thanks to Tesco who provided free paint and staff for the day to complete this task. It’s now a perfect ‘chill out’ room and a comfortable area for small groups to hire.

We even have a new sign, located next to the front door, just to make absolutely clear to everyone in the near vicinity who we are and where we are.

The tennis court floodlights have now been reinstated! This means that our groups can now use the area safely after dark. Many thanks to A.M. Electrics who spent a couple of very chilly days making this happen.

Many thanks to Hungerford Mayor and his wife Martin and Virginia Crane who officiated the grand switching on.

We’ve had a bit of an interesting time with our lease recently – John O’Gaunt School recently joined the Excalibur Academy Trust and consequently the Youth Centre did as well. We are really pleased with the support and encouragement we have received from the Trust so far; we have been assured that Youth Services will continue to be the Centre’s main activity:

‘There are no plans to change use of the Youth centre, and the school is looking forward to working with the team for the long term.’
Karen Davis, Chief Financial Officer, Excalibur Academies Trust
