Experience a warm welcome as you enter The Bell at Ramsbury, Britain’s best pub 2017/18. This landmark, award-winning 300-year old former coaching inn sits at the heart of the picturesque village of Ramsbury.
The Bell has retained its character features including log fires and flagstone floors with a light and spacious bar: a perfect retreat for an after-work drink or supper or a proper pub lunch, even relaxing with the Sunday papers.
The bar is dog-friendly (for friendly dogs) and tables are offered on a first-come first served basis, unlike the restaurant where booking is recommended. Try our hand-pulled traditional ales from our very own brewery, which combines Kennet valley water with the highest quality home grown barley from our estate.
The Bell’s restaurant is the perfect destination for a romantic or family meal, business lunch or a warming Sunday roast. Our menu features sophisticated, modern British dishes created by Head Chef Jonas Lodge.
With many years experience gained at a number of prestigious restaurants including the Fat Duck and the Hind’s Head in Bray, Jonas and his team use the finest quality products, many sourced locally from the Ramsbury Estate, to craft delicious seasonal dishes which bring dinners back to the restaurant.
Booking is highly recommended, particularly at peak times– and children and larger parties are welcome. We also have a menu for young children and highchairs and during the fine weather you can enjoy our garden and patio.
For those of you wanting to pop in for a delicious traditional cooked breakfast of homemade organic sausages, free-range eggs and our own blend of freshly roasted coffee, our Café Bella is open from 8.30 am seven days a week.
We also serve healthy lunches and in the afternoon, traditional baking from scones to classic homemade cakes, all served with a fragrant brew from the Ramsbury Tea Company.
If you are looking for a weekend away or mid-week break, we offer nine luxuriously adorned en-suite double bedrooms affectionately known by their game bird or freshwater fish names. The decoration is sensitive to its origins in its retention of all original features, and yet delivers a calming contemporary finish in soft furnishings, accessories and pampering touches. The rooms provide a complete sanctuary for that blissful overnight stay.
The Bell is just 10 minutes drive from Marlborough, where you will find the world-famous seat of learning, Marlborough College. The town reputedly has the widest high-street in Europe with a extensive variety of shops amongst a chic cafe-culture atmosphere. Equally near is Hungerford, your centre for countryside outfitters, the departure point for narrow boat excursions along the Kennet and Avon Canal or unearth that elusive treasure in one of the many antique shops.
It takes only 20 minutes to reach Newbury or Swindon for larger commercial retail outlets, and yet you can be in London’s West End in just over the hour.
Delicious food, beautifully presented. Staff are very welcoming. The atmosphere is quaint and cosy. It’s everything a country pub should be! Lydia Atkins
Amazing meal last night, service was exceptional. 8 people & 1 dog were looked after perfectly. Will be back! Natalie Mylchreest
Thank you for a wonderful stay this weekend. All of the staff were very friendly and willing to help, nothing was too much trouble. The cleaner even came back later on Saturday morning to clean the room as we were in the room mid-morning preparing for my sister’s wedding. The Bell has a lovely homely feel and we were made to feel very welcome the moment we walked through the door. The room was very clean and the breakfast was excellent, great choice on the menu. We are constantly rated highly on Trip Advisor and here is just one of our reviews from a customer who lives in Salisbury: “A great decision to pop in for lunch on a roasting hot day. Exquisite food (zero waste by the kids); good beer; lovely garden – what’s not to like? Only wish I could have stayed longer. House burger was sublime; prune ice cream with Pedro Ximinez perfect.”
