This past Saturday saw the finals of the British Wheelchair Basketball Junior League season as The Kings & Tornadoes joint venture continued in under 15 and 19 action.
Tornado Kings Under 15s, seeded 7th, started the day against 2nd seeds, the North Wales Knights, and battled really hard against them but lost 23-29. Knights went on to win the U15s competition showing how hard they fought. In the classification plate for 5-8th finishers, they first took on Jaguars and lost out by just 1 point 15-16. In the final game for 7/8th place, they faced the Viking Hoglets and faced more heartache as they lost by 2 points 12-14. Tornados Kings U15s finished 8th but can be proud of a strong season finishing with a good display at finals; a young team with a bright future ahead.
In Under 19s action, The Tornado Kings, top seeds, roared into the semi finals with a 41-6 win against 8th Seeds London AllStars. A gripping semi-final with the 5th seeds, the Mavkings, followed but a 20-15 win saw them advance to the final. The final match against Wolverhampton Wolves was a close game but it wasn’t to be, as Wolves piped the match 26-21. The Under 19s finishing second at Finals adding to the U19s South Division title collected on the way to the finals qualification.
Kings’ Joe Humphreys who played in his final Junior League competition this year stated “The experience I got from taking part in junior league allowed me to improve massively as a player. I love the event and the atmosphere that it had!”
