Longstanding Newbury Market Manager Steve Brind Retires

At Newbury Town Council’s Community Services Committee Meeting last night a presentation was made to Steve Brind, a well-known face at Newbury Market, who has retired after managing the Market for over 14 years. The Market has undergone a number of changes over the years which Steve has managed, with its expansion into Northbrook Street and, back in 2006 the complete refurbishment of the Market Place.

malcolm-debbie-smithWe are pleased to announce that Malcolm and Debbie Smith, of A & S Meats, will be taking over the role of Market Manager between them. Malcolm has been working at Newbury Market for over 40 years, starting on his father’s butcher’s stall when he was still at school. With a wealth of market experience, tradition and positive ideas we are confident that they will be an excellent team and we look forward to the future of our historic Market.

Steve Brind, outgoing Market Manager, said, “I have enjoyed my time at the Market over the years but I don’t think I’ll miss the early morning starts at 4am for set up! I wish Malcolm, Debbie and all the traders the best of the luck and hope to see the Market flourish in the future”.

Councillor Dave Goff, Leader of the Council, said, “We are very grateful to Steve for all of his hard work over the years and we look forward to working with Malcolm & Debbie Smith as they take over the reins”.
