Local Apprentice Sarah Naylor makes National Finals as part of IBM team

My name is Sarah Naylor, an ex- Park House student, lucky enough embark on a HR apprenticeship with IBM, last July 2016.

Since then, the opportunities have been endless. Within my job role, I have been able to work closely with my local community to raise the awareness of apprenticeships to both young people and employers whilst taking part in the Brathay Apprentice Challenge – to find the National Apprentice team of the Year.

As part of the challenge, I have had opportunities to meet local MP Richard Benyon, be part of an apprentice panel at Vodafone HQ in Newbury and also work with local schools to talk to young people about my journey as an apprentice and deliver personal-branding and interview skills workshops. Alongside this, myself and the eight other IBM apprentices taking part in the challenge were able to visit the Andover Young Carers Centre where we built a Willow Shelter to provide an outdoor space where the young people can talk in private to volunteers from the charity, just in time for summer!

Recently, I was lucky enough to be selected to represent the IBM team at the Houses of Commons where the National finalists were announced. The IBM team found we had come top of the South East region, and along with seven other teams, will be heading to Brathay HQ in the Lake District on June 12th to compete to be crowned National Apprentice Team of the Year 2017.

We will be Tweeting from @IBMBAC to keep everyone up to date with our progress as we rapidly approach the National finals. (see below)

Choosing the apprenticeship route upon completion of my A-Levels was the best decision I have ever made. Alongside some of the fantastic opportunities highlighted above, I am currently studying towards my Level 5 CIPD Qualification, I have a real job with real responsibility, and I have just submitted my application for National Apprentice of the Year 2017.
