The Crown and Garter, Inkpen

Crown & Garter ext

Crown & Garter room

The Crown and Garter is a 17th-century coaching inn, situated in the heart of the Berkshire countryside in Inkpen near Hungerford. We have 10 very comfortable and stylishly decorated en suite bedrooms that are simply, yet thoughtfully designed. Each room has the comfort of a superking bed made with good quality linen. There are televisions and hairdryers in the rooms. The shower rooms have been installed to a modern design, plus each room has good wardrobe space with plenty of hangers! The rooms are set apart from the pub restaurant so if you want an early night you shouldn’t be disturbed. The rooms are situated in an attractive courtyard with its own private garden where you can sit and read the newspaper or a book if the weather is being kind.

If you have young children we have one interconnected double room. If you are a business customer away from home for a few nights or are enjoying a weekend away in the country you will find the hotel a comfortable and relaxing place to stay.

Crown and Garter Restaurant
dining-room-table

The Crown and Garter has a fabulous restaurant thanks to executive chef Matthew Ambrose who makes the best use of what the local countryside has to offer. Our ethos is being honest about food, from where it comes and how it has been prepared and cooked. We serve simple food, well cooked and nothing too fancy.

We are delighted to have been awarded a Trip Advisor Certificate of Excellence five years in a row!

Customer Testimonials

“We were there for my wife’s birthday for dinner, bed and breakfast. The buildings have character and have been modernised impeccably. Small things have been thought of and implemented, like the shower controls are not under the shower so you can set the temperature etc before entering.
Service was very efficient and friendly. The food was superb, locally sourced, fresh and brilliantly cooked. Full of flavours. I had the ox cheeks which were melt in your mouth tender with taste to match. They make their own bread which was delicious. Our bedroom was a good size with en suite wet room. And it was quiet – no traffic, you could see the stars with no light pollution, really out in the country yet so near to Hungerford and Newbury. Will be going back”.  David, Basingstoke

“Me and my husband were staying here while attending a wedding to be held here last week. This place is a little gem. From the moment we arrived we were made to feel so welcome. A lovely young Evie showed us to our room which was situated in a beautiful quiet courtyard. the rooms a very tastefully decorated and has all the amenities you need including fresh milk in a cool flask for a drink in the morning. We then had a lovely drink in the immaculate terrace area at the front of the hotel after our long travel from Northumberland. they also have a small coffee shop here which serves freshly made bread and other local produce”. Morpeth, Northumberland
