Congratulations to Hungerford Primary School Year 6 Girls’ 7-a-side Football Team for becoming Berkshire Champions in the ESFA (English School’ Football Association) National ‘Danone’ Primary Championships – Berkshire County Finals.
They played Lynch Hill Primary School from Slough on Saturday 16 January at Henwick Sports Field.
The girls attacked the game with great positivity from the start and scored within the first minute. One more goal quickly followed and by half time, after 12 minutes, they were 3-0 up. A quick team talk with Darren Pettifer – one of their coaches from Hungerford Town Juniors – and they were ready to go again. There were lots of opportunities in the second half but Hungerford again dominated play, awarded with another goal. In the last few minutes, a quick break from the Slough girls led to a goal – leaving the final score 4-1 to Hungerford.
The team have now qualified for the South-West Regional Finals which will take place in Bath on Saturday 23rd April.
Credit must also go to Steve ‘Skippy’ Skipworth – their other coach, also from Hungerford Town Juniors. They’re a great double act and inspire and guide the girls every week to get the best from their abilities and help them grow and think as a team.
PE Coordinator of Hungerford Primary School Jenny East would like to thank all the supporters who came along to watch the game and support the girls – they had a really positive impact.
