Marlborough Choral Society Christmas Concert @ St Mary's Church, Marlborough
Dec 9 @ 7:30 pm – 9:30 pm

Marlborough Choral Society Christmas Concert
9 December, St Mary’s Church

Music lovers are looking forward to the Marlborough Choral Society Christmas concert which will take place on 9 December, St Mary’s Church, Marlborough at 7:30.

The programme will have two major pieces. The Magnificat, by Giovanni Battista Pergolesi, is a baroque work written in the early 18th Century. Pergolesi was well known as a composer of opera but this short and moving sacred work is set to the well loved text of the Hymn to the Virgin Mary derived from St. Luke’s Gospel.

Missa ad Praesepe (Mass at the Crib) by George Malcolm is a 20th Century work. Malcolm had a rich and varied career as composer, conductor and organist and he served as a bandmaster during World War II.

Soloists will be Emma Pooley, Alice Simmons, Simon Wells, Steve Piggott and organ accompaniment will be by Steve Bowey. The concert will be conducted by the Society’s musical director Gill Mortimer.

There will be some singalong carols and drinks will be served in the interval.

Tickets (£8 for adults, £4 for students and under 16s free) can be bought from choir members, Sound Knowledge or at the door.

There will be a retiring collection in aid of the Better Futures Appeal, raising funds for radio-therapy treatment at Great Western Hospital.

The choral society welcomes new members. They meet Monday evenings at Christchurch, Marlborough. No audition is required and for people whose musical skills are a bit rusty members are happy to give support.
