Berkshire Family History Society 2019 @ St Mary's Church Hall
Jan 9 @ 7:30 pm – 9:30 pm
Berkshire Family History Society 2019 @ St Mary's Church Hall | England | United Kingdom

Wed 9th January
Jack of Newbury

Dr David Peacock will describe the life and importance of this charismatic Tudor clothier, who became a wealthy landowner, magistrate and MP, rebuilt Newbury’s parish church and raised troops for Henry VIII’s military campaigns. His house occupied a 96-foot frontage on Northbrook Street, and accommodated dozens of looms in workshops behind.

Wed 13th February
Lord Craven of Hamstead Marshall and his trouble with the Commonwealth

Most royalist nobility lost their estates in the Civil War, but Lord Craven of Hamstead Marshall was an exception. Dr Manfred Brod, a historian who specialises in early-modern Berkshire, will explain how the extensive Craven land-holdings were regained.

Wed 13th March
Enos Molden

Enos Molden was the first Wiltshire policeman to be murdered. He died after being fatally wounded on 12th April 1892 near the gates of Longleat House. Judy Rous tells the story.

7.30 to 9.30 pm at Shaw Church Hall, RG14 2DR

Wed 9th January
Jack of Newbury

Dr David Peacock will describe the life and importance of this charismatic Tudor clothier, who became a wealthy landowner, magistrate and MP, rebuilt Newbury’s parish church and raised troops for Henry VIII’s military campaigns. His house occupied a 96-foot frontage on Northbrook Street, and accommodated dozens of looms in workshops behind.
