Hurray – Christmas has arrived with Hungerford displaying what many consider to be the best Christmas lights in the south. This year the honours were performed by BBC South presenter Sally Taylor MBE with MC Nicholas Lumley and performances by Hungerford Town Band, Hungerford Primary School, Community of Hungerford Theatre Company and Rock Choir.
The total cost of the lights is significant and is funded by Hungerford Town Council which is determined to maintain the excellent standard of the display in the face of increased costs and demands on their budget. The Council does receive some very generous donations from local businesses and residents but last year, this only amounted to less than 25% of the total cost. If you can help please make a donation here to the lights and your donation will be matched by The Good Exchange.
Hungerford Town Council would like to thank the Town & Manor of Hungerford who co-funded the main tree; REME 6 Armd Battalion Lieutenant Colonel Paul Cummins and soldiers Cfn Gander, Cfn Dickens-Smith, Cfn Barton and Cfn Campbell who helped dress the trees; Hungerford WI who provided the presents for the main tree; Shield Electrical for wiring the lights; Kennet Radio for providing the sound system; and councillors Rob Brookman and Rob Chicken for overseeing procedures.
