What to Do this May Halfterm

Heaps for kids to do locally to let off steam this May halfterm-  including a Real Science Day in Wantage, a Children’s Arts Festival in Hungerford, outdoor climbing day and some great ideas for occupying your children at home!

Crofton Beam Engines Steaming Weekend Sat 26 – Mon 29 May. Witness the exciting engines in action and enjoy activities following in the footsteps of the Giles family who lived in Crofton in the 1920s.

Berkshire Country Fayre  9am – 5pm Sun 27 May, Englefield Estate. Lovely day out for all the family.

Real Science Activity Day  10am – 3pm, Tues 29 May, Vale & Downland Museum, Wantage. Hands on activities, demonstrations & family fun. A chance to meet real scientists. Free entry. Children must be accompanied by an adult.

Free Family Fun Day at Growing2Gether Orchard 10am – 2pm Tues 29 May. Follow the fun, self-led sensory trail around the site then join us in the orchard to test your senses. Cottismore Park, Newbury Road, RG20 4SY

Children’s Activity Afternoon 1 – 3pm Thurs 31 May Lambourn Sports Club. £1 per child (must be accompanied by an adult). Bring a decorated rock to be judged.

Family Outdoor Climbing Day 10am – 4pm Sat 2 June with Reading Climbing Centre

Children’s Art Festival – 10am – 4pm Sat 2 & Sun 3 June, Hungerford

An indoor & outdoor two day festival, where kids can try out arts activities with professional artists in wide range of fun workshops and activities for kids, including theatre, music, drama, storytelling and crafts. Plus, a photo-booth, book swap, face-painting, activity sheet stations and plenty more.

Bring a picnic blanket if the weather is nice and make a day of it. An ice-cream van and pizza tent will be on hand (not included in pass price)

Thatcham Photographic Competition – for children under 10yrs, 11 – 13 yrs, 14 – 17 yrs who live or go to school within 10 miles of Thatcham. Deadline: 21 September

Jungle Parc at Lydiard Park nr Swindon – great climbing adventure in the tree canopy.
