National Carers Week

The week of 11th to 17th June is National Carers Week which aims to raise awareness of caring and recognise the contribution carers make to families and communities and to improve the lives of carers and the people they care for. Councillor Graham Bridgman, Executive Member for Adult Social Care said “A carer is someone who provides unpaid care and support to a family member or friend who has a disability, illness, mental health problem or who needs extra help as they grow older. Caring can be a hugely rewarding experience but sometimes carers find it challenging to take care of their own well-being whilst caring. The impact of caring on health and well-being should not be underestimated. For many carers, time spent socialising has to be meticulously planned and justified. Each June Carers Week puts the spotlight on carers across the UK and highlights the vital role that they play. They are at the heart of community care and their contribution deserves to be recognised, supported and celebrated.
