Newbury Building Society

We are proud of what we do.

Newbury Building Society is an independent building society that has been serving the community for over 160 years, providing savings accounts, mortgages and straightforward advice to our customers.

We have 10 branches in Newbury, Thatcham, Hungerford, Basingstoke and Dicot (as well as Alton, Winchester, Andover, Abingdon and Wokingham).

We are proud to be owned by our customers, rather than stakeholders. This means that instead of having shareholders, we have members who collectively own the business and are also our customers. We were originally set-up to meet the financial needs of savers and borrowers in our community. This principle is still true today.

Why choose Newbury Building Society?

There are many reasons why being a member of a mutual organisation is beneficial. With no external shareholders, we are committed to providing great service for our members and make a positive impact on the communities in which we operate. Unlike banks, members have a say in how the Society is run.

We are committed to providing quality and value.

We offer our members attractive mortgage and savings products, supported by excellent customer service. We take pride in providing straightforward advice on mortgages and savings.

We are passionate about supporting our members and their communities.

We have an active community and charity programme, supporting the communities in which our members and our staff live and work. We are proud of our financial education programme, the Junior Newbury Building Society initiative, which works with many schools across the region.

We are responding to our customers changing needs, and investing in the future.

Providing our members with excellent customer service is at the centre of all we do. We are working hard to maintain the excellent service we provide whilst responding to our member’s changing needs. Most recently, our members rated us a 89.1 customer satisfaction index – 11% higher than the banks and building society UK average – following an independently taken Business Benchmarking survey, supported by the Institute of Customer Service. We continue to work hard to maintain exceptional service both in-branch and online.
