Hungerford Christmas Lights Switch On 2017

It is a truth universally acknowledged (or it ought to be) that the Christmas lights in Hungerford are the best for miles around. Thanks once again to Hungerford Town Councillor Rob Brookman, the contractors and volunteers who helped string the lights on all the trees, in particular Roger Ballard and family, and REME 6 Armoured Close Support Battalion.

The switch on took place on Sunday 3 December, with local best-selling author Robert Harris flicking the switch. Before and after the main event musical entertainment was provided by Hungerford Primary School, Hungerford Town Band, Maddison Pettifer from John O’Gaunt School and West Berkshire Rock Choir.

The lights are organised by Hungerford Town Council and funded by the kind support of local businesses, shops and residents and The Town & Manor of Hungerford.

If you couldn’t make it, don’t worry – Penny Post did. Click on the video above for a short souvenir of the evening.

And remember, you can come back for an even bigger event, the Hungerford Christmas Extravaganza, on Friday 8 December. See you there…
