• I love raking leaves in November. It’s good exercise (I read once that David Beckham does it to tone his abs) plus the leaves stay raked for nearly a year. Not like our living room carpet which doesn’t stay hoovered for more than a day. Thank goodness for Jon at Eclipse Cleaning who always transforms our house (not least because we have to tidy up before he arrives so he can actually access the carpet).

• If you, or someone you care for, lives with a mental health condition and you would like to be involved in the process that helps shape mental health services in West Berks, then pleaseregister for the Thinking Together event 10.30am – 1.30pm Thurs 30 Nov in Hungerford Town Hall. Hosted by Healthwatch West Berkshire who are our independent champion and patient voice for health and social care. Registration Deadline: 26 Nov

• The next Neighbourhood Watch Meeting is 7.30pm this Mon 20 Nov at West Berkshire Council Offices, Market Street, Newbury with an interesting talk by Dr Nick Young on Newbury Then and Now and crime updates from the Police and Fire Service.  Anyone is welcome to attend.

• See this week’s Local News for our weekly guided tour of the region’s stories, newspapers and websites, including some thoughts about planning clarity, dendrochronology in Newbury, precepts in Thatcham, an unkindness of something-or-other and proof that the earth is flat.

• With Christmas coming you might be thinking of sprucing up your house including, perhaps, your oven. We tried doing that a while back and the process turned out to be a tad more complex than we anticipated…All is revealed in Keep it Clean.
