Discovering Nature Together gets help from Tesco Bags

The Berks, Bucks & Oxon Wildlife Trust is launching its new Discovering Nature Together trails on Monday 18 December at the Nature Discovery Centre in Thatcham.

The Wildlife Trust will welcome a group of children from Parsons Down Junior School in Herons Way, Thatcham, along with representatives from Tesco, Groundwork UK and companies involved in the development of the facilities, and local councillors from West Berkshire and Thatcham.

Liz Shearer, manager at the Nature Discovery Centre, is looking forward to the Discovering Nature Together launch event on Monday 18 December. “We will be enjoying the outdoor spaces with a morning of pond dipping, bird watching and scavenger hunting across site using the new equipment and facilities. The Tesco Bags of Help grant enabled us to transform ways that people explore the tracks and trails around the lake, and get closer to wildlife by using the optics equipment supplied by Celestron UK.  One of the exciting aspects to the Discovering Nature Together project is involving volunteers. They have helped to make a ‘living willow’ screen with windows at different levels so people can watch birds close-up. The new interactive panel beside the pond is already inspiring more people to create spaces for wildlife in their own gardens too.”

The launch event from 11am to 1pm on Monday 18 December is open to anyone who would like to be there, just book your free place before 5pm on Wednesday 13 December by calling the Nature Discovery Centre on 01635 874381. Places are limited, so please book early to avoid disappointment.

Thanks to thousands of shoppers voting in six Tesco stores across West Berkshire, the Discovering Nature Together project at the Nature Discovery Centre in Thatcham received £12,000 from the Tesco Bags of Help initiative, using funds raised from the 5p plastic bag levy.
