The Bell at Ramsbury – England’s Best Pub, 2017-18

Cornerstone of the 19,000-acre Ramsbury Estate, located in the centre of a thriving community in the picturesque village of Ramsbury, you will find The Bell. This quintessential 300-year-old country pub, with an outstanding restaurant and luxuriously appointed accommodation, is delighted to announce it has just been awarded the coveted AA Best Pub in England Award for 2017/18.

With 2,194 entrants from across England, the AA inspectors select pubs that stand out for being great all-rounders, with well-kept beers and ciders, excellent food, a convivial atmosphere and a warm welcome from the staff. Not only does The Bell deliver on all these counts but is also able to offer guests a wide selection of produce, award-winning spirits and beer produced on the Ramsbury Estate.

The team at The Bell aims to source as much from its own estate or from the local area as possible and has its own kitchen garden. Head Chef Jonas Lodge features sausages and dry cured bacon from The Bell’s own smokehouse, dry-aged beef from the estate’s heard of south and north Devon cattle and water-meadow lamb reared on the banks of the river Kennet. During the winter, venison and game birds from the estate’s sustainable woodland feature on the menu. In addition, Jonas and his team cook with the estate’s own extra virgin cold-pressed rapeseed oil.

The Bell is also able to pour award-winning Ramsbury single-estate spirits as its house serve. Grain vodka and gin are made a stone’s throw from The Bell, using the estate’s own wheat, water from its own source together with botanicals found on the Estate.

To celebrate The Bell’s success, the Ramsbury Distillery is producing a limited edition gin The Bell Reserve, flavoured with hyssop and bergamot flowers.  The Bell is also able to offer guests a variety of craft beers produced by the much loved Ramsbury Brewery.

Management and staff at The Bell are overjoyed at winning this prestigious award. “To receive the AA Award for Best Pub in England for 2017-18 is a great honour,” said Matt Saxton, The Bell’s Manager. “There have been some wonderful previous winners in this category. This achievement is testament to the hard work the team puts in to make The Bell so special and it’s well deserved by all of them. It will also encourage us to work even harder to continuously improve what we do.

“I am also really thankful to all of our guests who have supported us and to our owners who have backed our ideas to make our estate greater. Watch this space – there is lots more to come from us!”
