Steam Trip from Hungerford to Devon – Saturday 14 October

The Cathedrals Express returns to Hungerford to take locals on a fabulous steam-hauled day trip to Devon.

On Saturday 14 October, The Cathedrals Express steam train will stop at Hungerford station to pick up locals for a day trip on one of the world’s most famous railway journeys along the South Devon coast to Kingswear and Dartmouth.  The train is set to be diesel hauled as far as Taunton, where our steam locomotive, 34036 Braunton, named after the village in Devon, takes over.  The Cathedrals Express will depart from Hungerford at approximately 08:40 and head through Somerset and Devon, arriving in Kingswear at 12:45.

The five-mile run along the South Devon coastline right adjacent to the sea is one of the world’s iconic railway journeys and having Braunton at the head of the train makes the trip all the more special.  Passengers will of course have plenty of time to visit the historic naval town of Dartmouth with its narrow streets nestling on the hillside – all in all a perfect day out.

Tickets for this wonderful day trip on board The Cathedrals Express are available in all four classes, ranging from £129 per person in Premium Standard (£109 to Exeter) through to the top class of Pullman Style Dining of £275 per person (£249 to Exeter). Passengers travelling in Pullman Style will enjoy a champagne breakfast on the outward journey and a five course dinner on the return, whilst those opting for Premium Standard will be seated at tables of four in open carriages and served with complimentary tea and coffee at their seats.

The Cathedrals Express will also be picking up passengers at Taunton before heading on to Kingswear.
