Guide to Local Courses in September includes a wide variety of art, craft, cookery, music, drama, dance, language, IT, fitness, sport, adventure, dog training, wellbeing activities in our local area. Here are some highlights:

For Adults
• Nordic Walking with Ashley Sandy who asks who might be interested in Ski Fit classes in the Marlborough/Pewsey/Swindon/Hungerford area
• Free English lessons in Thatcham, Newbury, Lambourn with the Berkshire School of English
• Spanish Learning Club starts Sept for Beginners to Intermediate in Wickham nr Newbury.
• Sewing Workshops with Sewing Playground in Hungerford. Sat 9 Sept bring your own sewing project (& learn how to cut a pattern), Sat 23 Sept How to Shorten Trousers/Skirt
• Ballroom, Latin & Sequence Dance Weekly Beginner classes in Boxford (start Mon 11 Sept), Lambourn (start Tues 12 Sept)
• Ignition Tennis coaching for all ages and abilities in Chieveley, Hungerford, Kingsclere, Kintbury, Malmesbury, Newbury (at Park House School), Stockcross and Woodland (Tilehurst).
• Dog Training for Working Breeds Small, relaxed fortnightly classes on good manners, basic commands, steadiness and retrieving.  Starts Weds 13 Sept (1.30-4pm) or Weds 20 Sept (10am-12.30pm) in Marlborough.

For Kids 
• Mini Professors fun and hands-on preschool science classes start next week in Newbury (Mondays at Eddie Catz) & Wantage (Thursdays at The Beacon). three-week trials £12.
• Starlet Inspirations Dance School in Basildon runs ballet/tap/dance classes for 2.5-13 years. starting Thurs 14 Sept. For class times and to book a free trial contact Louise 07789 518 563.
• Hogan Academy‘s music tuition in Newbury with inspiring teachers who are performers in their own right
• Matt Ward Karate in Swindon, Wootton Bassett, Wroughton, Oare, Ashbury Chilton Foliat, Lambourn and Pewsey.
• Youth Theatre for 4-19 years at the Corn Exchange Learning Centre in Newbury. No auditions. Various age groups.
• NYT (Newbury Youth Theatre) for 14-21 years which takes its show to the Edinburgh Fringe each year. No audition.
• Young Firefighter Programme for 12-16 years at Newbury Fire Station.

Four (and Two) Wheeled Friends 

• It’s a pain when you’ve got a bike that needs fixing to have to drive it into a shop and then go back and collect it again so we were delighted to discover TR Cycle Repairs who come to your house to fix your bike onsite. • Marlborough author Vanessa Lafaye is writing a powerful, no-punches-pulled blog Living while Dying about her life with Stage four, triple negative breast cancer. A difficult subject but I strongly recommend it. You will need a hankie but you will laugh as well – she’s a very good writer and she would love you to share your thoughts with her. I can also recommend her first novel Summertimeand am looking forward to her new one At First Light.
