Activities for Teenagers

Young Firefighters Programme for 12 – 16 yrs

Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service is committed to engaging with its local community. As part of this strategy, we run a cadet scheme for young people aged 12-16 years called Young Firefighters.

The programme runs for 36 weeks from September to July following the school terms and lasts for one academic year. The scheme has been established since 1999 and has engaged with over 450 young people across the county in that time.

There are four Young Firefighters units within RBFRS based on stations, each run one evening a week from 7pm – 9pm during term time. Units run on Wednesday evenings at Whitley Wood and Crowthorne Stations and Thursday evenings at Maidenhead and Newbury Fire Stations.

Young Firefighter units are based at:

  • Whitley Wood Fire Station
  • Crowthorne Fire Station
  • Maidenhead Fire Station
  • Newbury Fire Station
