Snowdrops at Welford Park 2018

Welford Park is at the heart of the Lambourn Valley between Newbury and Lambourn. During February it is once again opening its grounds to the public, providing an opportunity to see the fantastic displays of Snowdrops and Aconites carpeting the woodland. In the formal gardens on the other side of the house the Galanthus cultivars can be discovered amongst hellebores and winter flowering shrubs.

The February sun, low in the sky, just catches the whiteness of frost and bloom creating a magical scene across the magnificent seven acre drift of snowdrops that attracts so many visitors each year.

A natural woodland walk with bridges across the River Lambourn together with the Old Laundry Tearooms serving homemade lunches and teas, and a Snowdrop Gift shop, make a wonderful day’s outing.

2018 Snowdrop News

Due to the very mild winter we have experienced so far, it looks as if Spring is on its way far too early.  The Snowdrops started poking through the ground in November, and came into flower two weeks early.   We will open our 2018 season with a magnificent spread already in flower.  Here at Welford Park we are all praying for a cold dry spell of weather to arrive. We need that to kill off all these horrid bugs people are catching, control the slug population but most of all hold the snowdrops where they are for us all to enjoy for February.  The yellow Acconites are looking great, and extraordinarily were a little late appearing, usually early January, and only coming to their best now.    The main entrance is better than it has ever been which is very exciting.

VERY IMPORTANT for our regular visitors, please note the new arrangements when walking from the car park to the entrance and follow the signs and new paths.  The Police and Highways and Transport Department of West Berkshire Council have taken over running the road crossing for us, and we are very grateful to them.
